One of the cardinal rules in any self-defense situation is to not under estimate the opponent. Because, the opponent might be a professional boxer, a great kicker, a fine wrestler, an excellent in-fighter, or simply a street fighter. One needs to be familiar with those particular ranges and methods of fighting in order to avoid any surprise elements. As a result, at IASJD, through SJDs' comprehensive and well-developed curriculum, we cover all of the four possible ranges of empty hand and weaponry that exist:

Kicking range (long range), Boxing range (medium range),
Trapping range (close range), Grappling-Wrestling range (in-ground range).

San Jieh Dao is developed in such a way to educate and train its students in the correct ways of thinking, by the correct standard in analyzing and examining the Tri Fold situations that they might face with. Because we may not necessarily be engaged in a physical battle, but a mental and spiritual one. Thus, we strongly believe in apologetics in SJD by giving rational, sound, as well as logical reasons as to "why we believe, what we believe" and "why we think what we think" and "why we train what we train." Therefore the students of San Jieh Dao would not just experience the elements, but also understand and apprehend the elements at a very high level. We strive to maintain excellence in the quality of our instructorship, which results in the students' all around physical and mental high performance and positive character qualities such as:

Self-Discipline, Self-Control, Mental Awareness, Coordination,
Concentration, Confidence, Focus, and many others.

And high level of ethics and moralities such as:

Humbleness, Helping attitude, Forgiveness, patience, endurance, and many others.

We emphasize greatly on the physical fitness and well being of our students, which among many they include:

Safety Training, Cardia Vascular, Conditioning,
Muscle Toning, Calisthenics, Mobility, Agility, Flexibility, and many others.

We offer phase ranking system to our students, which covers offensive, defensive and counter elements in our curriculum from our SJD's combative system.

SAN JIEH DAO's

principle of Adaptation:

"ADAPTING"
Rather than being ADOPTED

Did you know that the principle aim of all martial arts must be the preparation of the practitioner for a real life combative situation? Well, their aim needs to be this, but sadly to say most of the time it gets ignored or watered down. Most of the martial artist are too busy memorizing and rehearsing the unpredictable future fighting situations. As every logical and rational person knows that a fighting situation cannot be patternized, because the situations are never the same, always changing, living, hence dynamic.

One cannot predict a situation by merely rehearsing it through a series of predetermined forms, katas and dead and isolated patterns. Since Katas or Forms are merely lifeless, segregated, and void patterns and motions, then, how can an individual find enough courage and ever be ready for those unpredicted occurrences? How can he or she find sufficient confidence in order to be fully prepared for a real combat (in a Tri Fold level) and therefore overcome the adversaries?

The answer is San Jieh Dao's principle of adaptability. If a student is to be serious about protecting his life, he needs to be able to learn to adapt to every real Tri Fold situation as safely as possible. The individual needs to learn to mold himself into those unpredicted events, instead of trying to mold and shape those combative events into his or her particular brand and style of martial arts, techniques or katas. In a sense, one needs to adapt into the circumstances, rather than being adopted by the circumstances.

That is the difference between the conventional and traditional martial arts, which consist of Katas, Forms, and closed structures of elements, as opposed to San Jiah Dao, which consists of a parametric open system of physical elements. Since we as individual beings can exercise control over our own personal, and not over the outside environments, we can grasp the truth of this aspect of SJD's combative reality.

SJD's objective and standard curriculum allows for the development of the individual students' subjective God given gifts, talents and skills. Thus, the goal of San Jieh Dao is to objectively, comprehensively and scientifically educate and prepare the students on a Tri Fold level.
